Chelsea FC Picks up an award

Chelsea Football Club is celebrating its recent win at the People and Environment Achievement (PEA) Awards by offering charitable donations for all new event bookings.

The awards, designed to honour those demonstrating the importance of sustainability, saw Chelsea FC pick up an accolade in the Sustainability in Sport category. The club was praised for demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the environment, including the construction of their new training ground, judged to be one of the most environmentally friendly in sport.

In an extension to its Corporate Social Responsibility commitment, Chelsea FC has announced that it will be helping companies using the venue for events and meetings to reach their own CSR targets in terms of charitable donations.

For all new bookings over £10,000 from April 2011 onwards, 10% of the fee from events will be donated by the club to their partner charity, 95.8 Capital FM’s Help a Capital Child*.

Chelsea FC has a three year partnership with the charity, created with a view to raise significant funds by engaging fans, players and supporters. Help a Capital Child awards grants to projects supporting children and young people experiencing abuse, poverty, homelessness, disability and illness throughout London. The partnership has seen almost 1million children supported every year and over £1.5million raised for the charity.

Simon Taylor, Head of the Chelsea FC Foundation, said: “We’re delighted to receive the Sustainability in Sport award from such a prestigious judging panel. It is a huge tribute to our board, staff and the Chelsea FC fans themselves. We recognise that CSR policies are a large factor for many organisations who use the club for events so we are excited to be offering a charitable donation in order to contribute to this”.

The prestigious PEA awards took place in March at the National Geographic Store in London and were presented by TV personality and environmental campaigner Liz Bonnin.
